Leading Design For AML/Fraud Enterprise Web App
As the Lead UX Designer for the AML/Fraud side of Abrigo I helped create the new web based version of the company's legacy enterprise product.

The Challenge
Redesign Legacy Money Laundering Reporting Application
We were asked to rewrite our on-premise legacy product. My challenge was to do customer research, understand how customers used the product currently, and find ways to enhance the product so that BSA workflows could be performed more efficiently, while not completely redesigning the experience.

Understanding Workflows
I started by mapping out the legacy product in order to understand how it all fit together. I found that there were several pages that were only accessible from single workflows. To address this problem I reformat the information so that all pages could be accessed within virtually less than three clicks.
Information Architecture Problems
System Workflow Problems
-
No Global Navigation
-
No Clear Hierarchy of Information
-
Certain areas are only accessible through front page
-
Many Workflows don't make sense to new users
-
Many flows don't use intuitive UI patterns
-
Site is not integrated with other systems used in full workflows
-
Site does not allow for personalization
-
There are many areas of the site that users don't even use
Low Fidelity Hypothesis Validation
Afterwards my Product Manager and I synthesized what problems we found and determined which idea we thought were high value and worth developing in the new version. I went to my sketch pad and start ideating the enhancements to the workflows. Before testing with users I first went to our team of developers to ensure what we wanted to build was feasible. After several discussions I sent out several mockups to customers to do user testing.
Experiment Report
To understand what aspects of the current Summary page are appealing or unappealing from the perspective of a daily user. Using three designs as benchmarks against the current design user will be forced to evaluate their current experience against an alternative process. This comments should give us insights into what the eventual design should be.

"Smaller institutions likely complete their CTRs in a single day, whereas larger institutions may take several days to complete a day’s CTRs. The current "view allows users a quick summary of several weeks’ worth at once." - AML Analyst, First National Bank of Texas
"We like that you can view the CTR Suspects in red and it is more clean and organized as well. It is also a good tool to validate those that have been reviewed and ready to file and then later on, filed with FinCEN" - AML/Fraud Team, Woodforest
Low Fidelity Usability Testing
After I validated the overall design I created workflows and low fidelity mockups to test the usability of the new flows. I transferred my sketches and whiteboard flows to Balsamiq and Invision and create prototypes that I then tested remotely with users. I did this prior to moving to higher fidelity because these patterns had not been established in the BAM+ Design System yet and I wanted to be sure I was testing the UX flows and not specific UI interactions.
Final Design
After I validated my key workflows in a couple rounds of testing I moved my designs to high fidelity. Below are the shipped designs that are currently in production.
